From 0% to Full Coverage: A 30-Day Testing Roadmap for AI-First Teams

Your team uses AI coding tools. You ship fast. You have zero test coverage. And you know that's a problem, but you don't know where to start.

This is the most common situation we see at TestSprite. Teams that adopted Cursor, Copilot, or Claude Code saw immediate productivity gains in code generation, but their testing infrastructure didn't evolve to match. It doesn't have to be. Here's a 30-day roadmap for going from zero coverage to comprehensive automated testing without slowing down your shipping speed.

Week 1: Establish the Safety Net

Day 1-2: Install TestSprite's GitHub App. This takes minutes. Point it at your staging or preview deployment URL. From this moment, every PR gets a comprehensive test run automatically.

Day 3-5: Review the first results. TestSprite will generate tests for your existing codebase and run them. Some will fail — these are existing bugs you didn't know about. Day 8-10: Review and adjust generated tests. Go through the test suite results systematically. For each test that doesn't match your product intent, use the visual editor to adjust. Change interaction types, update expected values, swap element locators. Each adjustment takes seconds.

Day 11-14: Focus on your most-changed areas. Look at your Git history. Which files change most frequently? These are your highest-risk areas. Ensure TestSprite's coverage of these areas is comprehensive and the test assertions match your current product spec.

By end of Week 2, your test suite is calibrated. False positives are minimized. Failures represent real bugs.

Week 3: Integrate into Team Workflow

Day 15-17: Enforce the merge gate. Configure GitHub to require TestSprite checks to pass before merging. This is the single most important step: no code reaches the main branch without passing tests.

Day 18-21: Train the team on the visual editor. Every developer and product manager should know how to read test results and adjust tests. The visual interface makes this accessible to non-technical team members. A ten-minute walkthrough is sufficient.

By end of Week 3, testing is embedded in your development workflow. Every PR is tested. Every merge requires green tests. The team knows how to interpret and adjust results.

Week 4: Optimize and Expand

Day 22-25: Review coverage gaps. Are there features that TestSprite isn't covering well? Edge cases specific to your product that need custom test assertions? Use the visual editor to add these refinements.

Day 26-28: Set up MCP integration. If you're using Cursor or Claude Code, enable the MCP server for the autonomous fix loop. TestSprite sends fix instructions to the coding agent. The agent patches issues automatically. Testing becomes fully autonomous.

Day 29-30: Measure and baseline. How many bugs has TestSprite caught in the first month? How many merge-blocking failures? What's your average PR-to-merge time? These metrics become your baseline for continuous improvement.
